ORCHESTRA PIT

The orchestra pit is a hydraulic lift that also doubles as an apron extension when at full height. When not in use as either, it can carry two seat wagons with 86 public seating places. It will hold 80 musicians with a complete set of chairs, music stands and stand lights.

ORCHESTRA SHELL

A sectional, movable acoustical shell (brown and gold coloring) is 2,400 square feet. It may be made smaller by removing rear side sections and moving back of shell 9’ forward. Overhead lighting equals 37 - 6’ fresnels, 1000 W for full shell, 30 for shortened shell. Access via two large doors on each side. Riser sets are available. When acoustical shell is in use, no main curtain, borders, legs or battens may be used.

NOTE: Shell ceiling units are stored in fly area creating dead area between lines 19 and 20 of approximately 2’6".

HOUSE

The auditorium seating is of continental design (no center aisle) and has seating for 2691 with the pit seat wagons installed. There is one balcony.

LOADING DOCK

Loading dock entrance is from Almaden Boulevard, and it is a curving ramp. Dock and ramp are able to handle only one truck at a time. See drawing for clarification.

Ramp width18’0"
Dock height3’6"
Dock width13’0"

DRESSING ROOMS

All dressing rooms are one level above stage level and are accessible by stairways both stage left and stage right. Each is fully equipped with showers, sinks, toilets and make-up tables with lights and chairs. There are also two quick-change rooms on stage level, through a door off-stage right. See drawings for layout.

1 "star" carpeted room
5 semi-private rooms (2-6 people)
2 large chorus rooms (40 people each)

WARDROBE

Wardrobe room is located upstairs near the chorus dressing rooms. There are 2 washers and dryers available.

STORAGE

The stage has adequate wing space both left and right as well as an open storage area behind the up-stage right wall. This area is accessed through a 10’ x 10’ double door. There is also a trap room below the stage level which is accessible via elevator, stairs or by the pit elevator.

ODDS and ENDS

Theater has a variety of ladders, from 3’ to 12’, plus a 36’ genie personnel lift.

There are numerous 6’ and 8’ tables with folding legs.

The theater owns a 9’ Steinway grand piano.

Below stage level there is a rehearsal room which is the same dimensions as the interior of the shell on-stage. The height in this room is 12’ 0" to the light fixtures. On this same level there is a conductor’s dressing room and musicians’ room. Also, the pit is accessed from this area while in normal performance position.

There are plugs to fit onto the up-stage side of the pit wall to extend the apron down-stage 2’5".

There are various TV monitors around the building which carry a closed-circuit of the stage, but there is not one on the stage or at the stage manager’s panel. The closest one is in the storage area up-stage right and a feed can be taken off of it to take a signal onto the stage. This run would only be about 50’.

There are acoustic sound baffles located down-stage left and right, 7’ 9" down-stage of the plaster line, which when turned parallel with the house walls contributes to the acoustic accuracy of the hall. They can also be rotated to be parallel to the plaster line and act as an additional wing. They are 36’ tall and 12’ wide. On their off-stage side there is a standard door which is four or five steps to another door directly to the stage.

LIGHT CONTROL

The lighting system consists of a ETC system. There are 630 ETC Sensor A-F dimmers for the stage with another 12 dedicated to the house lights. Of the stage dimmers, 618 are 2.4kw and the remaining 12 are 6kw. The control consists of two consoles and a very sophisticated network. Primary console is an Obsession 1500. Secondary console is an Insight 2xMLM. They are networked such that either console can control any of the 1536 dmx channels at any time. If both consoles address the same dimmer simultaneously the highest level takes precedence. The 642 house dimmers are wired to the first two dmx channels. There are nine optically isolated outputs for the second two dmx universes strategically located throughout the stage for control of additional devices such as rented color changers or intelligent fixtures. The consoles are equipped with MIDI Show Control so that one can slave to the other.

THE MONITOR/PAGE SYSTEM

There is a monitor microphone suspended behind the first border on stage center. The page mic may be hooked in at the stage manager’s panel or the theater manager’s office. Both mics are fed into an Altec 1591 compressor and then into an Altec 1590B amplifier.

The amplifier supplies on a 25 volt line to all of the dressing rooms, hallways, front offices, backstage offices, all basement areas, workshops and control rooms. Dressing room, hallways and workshop volume levels and controlled from the rack. All others have their own controls.
