National Register of Historic Places. San Jose was the fourteenth mission founded June 11 1797 by Fr. Lasuen. The convento has the only daub and wattle wall construction fragment left in a California Mission. An earthquake destroyed the mission church in 1868. From 19821985 the church was reconstructed using traditional building methods. The convento wing is original and houses the museum and collections. The California Missions Foundation and the State of California assisted with financing an earthquake retrofit of the convento in 20012002.
