Team San José makes green meetings easy with comprehensive eco-friendly practices, products and services. From partner hotels to the San José McEnery Convention Center to the San José Mineta International Airport (SJC) – San José’s visitor industry is collectively putting its best carbon footprint forward.

The City of San José developed a community-wide climate action plan called Climate Smart San José in 2018 to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Climate Smart San José was one of the first plans aligned with the Paris Climate Agreement, promoting bold goals around energy efficiency, the electrification of buildings, transportation and water conservation.

In June 2022, San José City Council revised the City’s sustainability action plan and introduced a new detailed plan Pathway to Carbon Neutrality by 2030. With ambitious goals and strong plans to achieve them, San José is helping accelerate climate action around the world by leading the way with our community.

Team San José, the Convention Center and the Cultural Facilities are committed to supporting the City of San José’s Pathway to Carbon Neutrality.

    • Recycle over 78% (326 diverted tons) of all waste collected from the meetings campus in 2023, in partnership with Z-Best.
    • First in San Jose to offer ChargePoint America electrical vehicle charging stations.
    • Upgraded Convention Center Ballroom to ETC Lighting System, providing the best and most innovative system in exhibit hall lighting in North America and exceeding current industry standards. LED light bulbs will last an estimated 50,000 hours and consume 80% less power than the previous system.
    • Saving 365,000 gallons of water annually by closing the hot water loop, allowing Team San José to reclaim and treat domestic water.
    • Using energy-efficient LED plasma screens and digital marquees for event advertising throughout the meetings campus.
    • Reduce waste with motion-activated lighting, soap dispensers, water-efficient toilets and 100% recycled and biodegradable paper products.
    • Utilize battery-powered service carts across the Team San José campus.
    • Install FLOwater dispensers in employee break rooms to reduce the use of individual water bottles, eliminating the use of 26,000 bottles each year.
    • Use Green Seal-certified cleaning products to limit harmful VOC particulates in the air.
    • Use recycled, biodegradable, 100% compostable or re-usable products sold and approved by World Centric, a leading commercial composting company.
